Obituary comments from his army friends :-

I received a phone call from John Aberdeen this evening.

He gave me the bad news that former Bugle Major Terry Kent has passed away.

His widow Sylvia lives in Cornwall. As I recall, they had 5 children, one of whom is a WO1 in the Army.

My own memories of Terry are numerous. He lived next door to me in Lemgo, and he and I staggered home on many a night from some over indulgence in the Serjeants Mess.

But indiscretions aside, he was one of natures Gentlemen. There wasn't a nasty bone in his body.

He seemed to be perpetually happy and in good mood. Additionally, he was a brilliant Bugle Major, and smart as a carrot.

If any of you have any memories or words of condolence, please put fingers to keyboard, I will collate them and send them on to Sylvia.

A good man no longer with us. God bless him.

Last time I saw Terry Kent was the day I left the Army in 1978, he wished my luck as I packed my car ready to go next morning.I first met him when he came to Junr Soldiers Coy at Shrewsbury as a Instructor...and if my memory serves me right at that time he was a Band Cpl playing a Cornet and he took over from another Cpl Geordie Cutmore DLI.

Please pass on my condolences to his wife and family.

Percy...next time you speak to John Aberdeen...say hi from me...its even longer since I last saw him...

One of the down sides of being a member of this web site is hearing about the sad passing of our old friends and comrades. Terry fitted into both of those categories. What a gentleman, what man, what a Bugle Major. When you pass on these condolences to Sylvia please also pass on our fondest wishes from both Ann and I.

Thanks Percy.

Could you please pass our condolences to Sylvia and her family from Pauline Cox, Carrie-Ann  and  family
Hi Percy,

The loss of one of our friends always brings us to realise how fragile we are, but better to have know a dear friend than not at all. Terry was a grand Bugle Major, though I mainly met him when he was on exercise and as always as defence platoon. I remember him playing hockey, not the biggest of lads, but always he would get stuck in. Please give Sylvia and family our deepest condolences, as we are thinking of them.
Thank you Percy.

I was really saddened to hear the news of Terry's passing. He was my bugle-major 1970-73.Smart firm but fair, first met Terry in 1967 at Shrewsbury took the junior buglers on practice first impression counted.

Have lots of good memories of band-bugle jobs. He was one of life's good guys. Last spoke to him at a reunion in Shrewsbury in the 90"s,great bugle plt.

Please pass on my condolences to Sylvia and family. Don Summers and Trisha
I didn't know Terry Kent personally, due to the fact that I was demobbed in Mar:1965, from Tidworth.

However this has no bearing on the loss of a Friend and Light Infantryman, who was well remembered by other of my Friends and Compatriots, within the Regiment.

Would you kindly pass on our Sympathies and Condolences to the Family of Terry.

Hi Percy

Please pass on my sincerest condolences to Terry s wife and children --- I was Texted over the weekend by a dear friend about Terrys death as I have been away for the weekend --- at Pauline Hutleys birthday party --

As I arrived home, Geoff Taylor (Sixes) visited me, he was a bugler in the platoon with me, Terry, Pete Bate, and other buglers, this is a photo of Geoff and Pete the other day --

Geoff has asked to pass on HIS condolences -- He is going to get me a photo of Terry and the bugle platoon on exercise in Malaya in 1969 -- Shortly after TERRY joined us.

I first met Terry in Colchester in 1969 - it must have been the first day he arrived as he at my married quarter to introduce himself to me as the new Bugle Major ---

I was the senior NCO in the bugle platoon, he came to have a chat about things as he had been told that I was about to leave the Buglers -- He asked me to stay and help him in the platoon as he wanted some help with the platoon - he did not want to lose me so early in his new appointment --

Terry was very candid and told me that he was a musician and not too clued up on the military side, so he needed me to help him in that position, so I changed my mind and had a very nice conversation with him --

He was really very nice smart as a button - I thought I could work with this man - and my wife Noi - asked to stay for tea with us which was Chinese - she like him -.

I looked after the military side and terry the bugling side -- our association was very - good - and I was so proud of him when he went on a weapons training course and came back to the regiment with marks on his course, I can remember him being a bit wary of not doing well on the course - he did really well ---

He was a great Bugle Major, an asset to the regiment especially the band and bugles -- I had to leave the Buglers - and join D Coy after doing another course and it was so sad --

Terry he was a lovely person --- It is so sad to hear of his death -- So very sad - he was an asset to the regiment, I am so sorry I could not have worked with him longer --- So sad.

God Bless his widow and children
