Roger Arrand Ex KOYLI/1LI/2LI
Posted By: DAVE F
I have just received the sad news that Roger passed away yesterday
(30th May) Roger finished his time with 2LI in Hemer.
He worked as a civilian storekeeper at the parachute centre in
Sennelager.
Roger celebrated his 62 birthday in Feb this year.
I will always remember him as a mate, a staunch Light Infantryman
and an all round good mucker.
Condolences to Rogers family.
I will keep the forum informed when I get more detail
Please pass this information to all, as a lot of people new Roger,
Dave Fish will let me know of anything as soon as he can.
Thanks
Micky Miles

Sjt Roger James Arrand M.I.D.
1947-2009 - Service History 1965-1989
Roger had many friends in the Lightinfantry, I thought this
would be a good idea to say goodbye, as many cannot make it to
Germany for the Funeral on the 19th June, but would have liked
to pay there respects.
My first meeting with Roger was in 1975 as red arses me and Phil
Blakey were told to report by CSM Mick Kilburn to the Assault
Pioneer Stores this was our first day in the Battalion and Sp
Coy on arriving we were met by most of the plt, Roger was by the
door, he said my name is Cpl Arrand a quick blow to the chest I
hit the deck, on the way back up he said grab this beer and
welcome to the best plt in the Battalion, but I would say he was
one of the best NCO's in the Battalion.
Please sign the Wall thank you
I will print of the page 12th June then send it to Dave to pass
on to Rogers family for the 19th June.
Thanks for you Support

Firstly can I ask who is in touch with Rogers family?
Secondly I can't believe he has passed away. Roger was indestructible, the
strongest and hardest man I've ever met.
He was Assault Pioneer C/Sjt in SP Coy in Gibraltar when I was CSM.
A totally lovely man with a ready smile and a kind word for
everyone....and so good at his job.
What a loss. God rest his soul and condolences to his family.

Sad news indeed. I concur with all that has been written. I saw
quite a bit of Roger whilst stationed in Sennelager in the 90s. \
He was always one for
living his life to the full. The tragedy is that we his friends
and colleagues never got to share his thoughts and friendship over
the last 20 years.
If any good can come from Rogers passing it is to emphasise the
importance of maintaining our comararderie via this web site.
Does anyone know if he is being buried in Germany?
