Lt Col Peter George Fleming

Lt Col Peter George Fleming MA died on the 7th September
2007 in Gillingham, Dorset.
Peter was born on the 17th June 1926 and was first
commissioned into the 5th Ghurkhas on 21st July 1945.
Before that he served in the ranks and served at home
and in India during WW11.
He was released at the end of the war and then, as a
university entrant, was commissioned into the KOYLI on
the 13th February 1951, Prior to that he was in 21 SAS.
There followed a spell in West Africa, and on return to
UK mid 1957 he was appointed Adjutant Depot KOYLI.
In October 1959 he was an instructor at the Company
Commanders Division, School of Infantry.
Between December 1961 and August 1963 he was with 1
KOYLI in Malaysia. In August 1963 he became 2 IC of 1
DLI after which he was on the staff of the Director of
Infantry.
Between April 1966 and January 1969 he was the British
Liaison Officer at the USA Infantry Centre for which he
was awarded the Legion of Merit.
He retired on 31st January 1969 after which he joined
the American Army and served in Vietnam.
On return he retired to Gillingham where he continued to
take much interest in the Regiment.
