Reginald Fletcher

Reg was a lovely person

Reg died May 2005, aged 64yrs.

He enlisted into the KOYLI in April 1959. He completed his training at Strensall and was posted to 1 KOYLI in Hilden where he joined A Coy.

He remained with A Coy for his entire 15yrs service retiring in 1970. During this time he served with 1 KOYLI in Malaya, Borneo, Tidworth, Aden and Berlin, then following vesting day with 2 LI in Northern Ireland and Lemgo

Les Parkin says :- I joined up with Reg, we both did our training together, he was a lovely person, always loads of fun. we both joined A coy in July 1959, the regiment was at Sennelager on their Annual shooting tests, our first day and for the weeks following we were there, our accommodation was a tent with duck boarding not that we needed it as it was brilliant weather the whole time, lots of time taken putting our fires on the ranges.

It was not long after getting back to Hilden, that it was noticed that Reg was a great goalkeeper, he became the regiments goalkeeper for the whole of his service.

He never sought promotion he was happy as he was, when asked if he wanted to go on an NCOs cadre, he always declined with a smile.

Reg settled in Colchester where he lived alone for the rest of his life, Leo Lyons was a friend of Reg and came in contact with him keeping an eye on him. Until Reg suddenly expired.

Sadly we lost Leo last year
