Memories of our mates

Pte Nigel Ward

Harry Finley Says:-

I have over a number of months, wracked my brains about one of my clerks when I was ORQMS of the Battlalion.

The problem I had was that I was aware that this particular person was killed in a motorcycle accident whilst the Battalion was in Ballykinler, but for the life of me I could not remember his name.

I have no firm documentation regarding his death other than he was on his way to England on leave or returning there from when he was killed.

With a blinding flash today I remembered his name was Nigel Ward. He was an unhappy Bandsman who thought his future was in the clerical field and I decided to give him a chance. I recall that he successfully passed his B3 Clerks Course and, despite his inexperience showed real promise as a clerk.

I am sure that many of you who served with the Battalion throughout the Ballykinler tour will remember him and recall this tragic accident.

He should really be included in the Remembrance Page.

Regards,

Aitch
