Hi Dave & All, Sad to hear that Dougie has passed away. He really was larger than life, a good Bn. player and a gentle giant of the Sgt's Mess.

I do not know if Dougie had any family, though I send my deepest condolences.

Tim Humphreys

The last time I met Dougie was 1974/5 at Warminster when I was on my small arms course .

As some of you know I go to a signals re-union up in Doncaster every year and I was lucky enough 3 years ago to to see Dougie and talk about old times and sometimes that's the beauty of going to different re-unions is that every now and again you meet up with someone you haven't seen for years then a thing like this happens and it makes you feel a little better because you met him before he went

Dave Mills

Sad to hear about Dougie, he was my Plt Sjt in Hilden saved me from a beating, Dick Rim was in drunken fighting mood, he had already dropped the eldest of the Mannerfield's and Dutch Holland ,then he got me, lucky Dougie arrived on the scene at that moment, and told Dick to leave me alone or he would drop him

Dick was not very happy about it, but he saw the light and let me go, a gentle giant and a good man, pass on my condolences to his family

Mick Fill25

Hi all I got the news about Doug from our kid yesterday, he received a phone call from Doug's cousin who was at Doug's place doing want we all have to do when we loose some one. He found a letter from our kid about the Signal platoon reunion we have here in Doncaster, and gave him a call just to let him know. He did not say anything more than he passed away on the 12th, he did say he would let us know when the funeral would be. I'll post them as and when I receive them....

Hi Les

It is with great sadness that I read of Doug Blake's passing. I recall Doug very well, a dependable gentle giant, remembering that I'm only 5' - 4"ins: tall.

Please ensure that my "Sincere Condolences" are passed on to the bereaved family.

Sincerely,

An amenable chap. Jim Hobbs used to tell me a tale about the depot at Pontefract. Apparently a chauffeur driven rolls belonging to Dougie's family used to turn up occasionally to collect him, the driver stopping at the guard room and asking for 'Master Douglas'

Percy Potts
