Mr George Albert Ernest (Bill) Lloyd, died
on the 19th December 2005 aged 68.
He enlisted into the Somerset Light infantry in 1956 and after
an exemplary career serving with the SCLI and rising to be RSM
with the 2 LI before finishing his army career in 1985 as depot
RSM in Shrewsbury.
He then spent two years working with the Army Careers information
office in Bristol.
On his return to Shrewsbury he bought his 'Local', the Cross
foxes. This was a life to which he was ideally suited and enjoyed
for 20 years as 'Mine host'
Many of his comrades visited over the years and many a tale was
recalled over a few pints.
He became President of the Shrewsbury and district Licensed
Victuallers Association, a post he held for 10 years.
He was a great family man and Mary, his three sons and grand
children were his life.

There will be few "Leaders" in any army of whatever rank, that
will be so well liked and respected as was Bill Lloyd. I am sure
that his spirit and influence, moulded many an LI man into what he
is now. I know that I will always remember him.

I'm from Nottingham and when I tell the lads at work who my RSM
was they say Larry Lloyd forest legend didn't have a brother, I
set them straight and they are quite shocked.
Bill was a bigger legend than his bro could ever be, though from
feedbacks he was very proud of Larry, I think Larry would have
been prouder...
